Beyond the Drill: Advancing Care Through Minimally Invasive Dentistry

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

• Define the principles and philosophy of minimally invasive dentistry (MID) and its impact on oral and overall health.
• Identify evidence-based strategies that support early detection, risk assessment, and preventive-focused care.
• Evaluate minimally invasive techniques that preserve tooth structure and promote long-term outcomes.
• Explore the role of collaboration between dental and medical professionals in improving patient health.
• Integrate practical MID concepts into daily clinical practice for measurable patient benefit.

Dr. Jonathan Norris is a Board-Certified pediatric dentist practicing in southwest New Hampshire.  His practice, Montshire Pediatric Dentistry, has 9 locations across MA, ME, NH, and VT.  He completed his dental education at Virginia Commonwealth University-Medical College of Virginia, where he was awarded the Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. During dental school, Dr. Norris was awarded the Health Professions Scholarship from the United States Air Force; he was selected to attend the United States Air Force Academy, where he rose to the rank of Captain and earned a certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry. After his active-duty service, he completed his pediatric dental residency at NYU Langone Systems Center, where he received extensive specialty training in all aspects of pediatric dentistry.  Since 2017, he has been an advocate for minimally invasive dentistry, focusing on non-surgical interventions and reducing pediatric sedation.  Through the medical management of Caries, he has resigned from 6 hospitals where he previously held operating room privileges. He is passionate about educating the medical and dental professions about the impact this will have on patients, providers, and practices.
